General Posting Guidelines
The New Order Mormon discussion boards are full of people in all different phases of their religious journey. We have a desire to keep this place inclusive, so that as many people as possible will feel comfortable participating. To that end we will enforce the following posting rules.
Please remember your membership on the forum is contingent on following these rules.

Swearing
Swearing
and other "not safe for work" language should be avoided. If a truly frustrating idea needs some emphasis, try omission: sh**, b*****d, or the more cartoonish, and less likely to be moderated, $!!**@.

Mocking and Belittling
While we often can be tempted to mock and belittle those who are still TBM (True Believing Mormons), we should avoid that. Please remember that many if not most of us have people in our lives who we love and respect that still are full believers. This also extends to the church itself, please avoid:
• Derogatory terms for the church, including but not exclusively "The Cult", "The Crutch", "The Moron Church"
• Diminutive or mocking terms for church leaders. For example it would be fine to refer to Thomas Monson, but not Tommy Boy.
• Overtly hostile parodies or jokes at the expense of the church or church leaders.

Bearing Testimony
While we want to avoid an overly hostile environment, and discourage mocking and angry rants against the church, we also want to keep this place free from moralizing and testimony bearing. Every so often we get a well intentioned believer who wants to come and convert everyone, or call to repentance. This is not acceptable for this board.

Avatars and Pictures
Please keep the other posting guidelines in mind when creating or selecting avatars and pictures to post in threads. In addition, Avatars should be safe for work, avoiding overly violent or sexual images.

Sock Puppets
Using a second identity to support your position or to attack another user will not be tolerated. Own your communications. If you need to use a second identity temporarily to conceal your identity while discussing a sensitive subject, you should inform a moderator, otherwise, your new identity will likely be disabled. In simple language, you should only use one identity.

Posting Etiquette?
A board like this functions better and provides good content and support when people keep in mind the following posting etiquette. Please keep these things in mind when you are creating your posts:
• Avoid excessive use of Capitalization. NO ONE LIKES TO BE YELLED AT!
• Avoid excessive use of Emoticons. A string of emoticons is not content.
• Avoid posts with little content, simply saying "Me Too" or "Like" or "LOL". These can be appropriate at times, but think about what you can add to the discussion, rather than just reminding everyone you exist.

Personal Dynamics
Anytime a group of people come together, there are interpersonal dynamics that can cause problems. We are an anonymous forum, which makes it especially important for each of us to be respectful of each other. Please avoid the following:
• Overt Flirting. Remember the person on the other end might not appreciate the attention. Be respectful.
• Stalking
• Personal Attacks. There is no problem with good argument, and we all benefit from a respectful exchange of ideas and alternative viewpoints. Try and stick to the facts and avoid personal attacks.

Can we discuss the temple?
Discussions about the temple are fine, with the exception of a few specific restrictions. This site is visited by all sorts of people at various phases of their religious journey, and we don't want to turn people off when they first come to our site. Please avoid the following:
• Specific descriptions or illustrations of names, signs and tokens
• Word for word extended quotes from the temple ceremony
• Pictures of temple clothing
• Revealing your new name

What else is off limits with regards to the church?
Nearly everything is ok.. It is important that this site remain a place where people are able to freely express themselves. The key is just being aware of the impact of what you say on those who visit us and want to participate.

What is this board all about?
From the webpage:

New Order Mormons are those who no longer believe some (or much) of the dogma or doctrines of the LDS Church, but who want to maintain membership for cultural, social, or even spiritual reasons. New Order Mormons recognize both good and bad in the Church, and have determined that the Church does not have to be perfect in order to remain useful. New Order Mormons seek the middle way to be Mormon.

The NOM Forums are a place to offer and receive insight into the more liberal 'middle way' to mormonism.
